Uxbridge eased into the next round of the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, with a comfortable 4-1 win over Edgware & Kingsbury FC.
It was a much-changed Reds line up from the victory over Thame on Saturday, but it made little difference as Uxbridge extended their unbeaten run to 8 games in all competitions.
The home side had plenty of the ball early on, and it came as no surprise when they opened the scoring on 10 minutes as Mark McLeod put over a fine cross for Alex Witham to expertly steer his header home via the far post. Three minutes later Maurice Black could have doubled the lead as he broke through the defence, but Aram Sarkissian in the visitor’s goal was equal to the shot. The lead was doubled shortly after though, when Witham found space on the edge of the box and beat the keeper with a low shot at the near post – Witham completing a hat-trick of sorts, following his last-minute winner at the weekend. The midfielder could have actually got his 3rd a few minutes later but shot just over after a great turn in the box. Just before the half hour it was three though, when the industrious Soares put over a delicious cross for the onrushing Glenn Yala to smash home from close range. Three minutes later it was 4 when a fine turn and shot by Toby Nnadozie beat the keeper – and the home fans thought the floodgates would really open. Nnadozie and Yala again both went close, but that was the end of the goalscoring for the first half.
HT 4-0
To say the second half was an anticlimax  would be an understatement  - Edgware tightened up and made things more difficult, and Uxbridge were happy to sit back on the lead – half chances for James Taylor and Alex Witham came and went – as Edgware began to get more into the match. They were rewarded with a fine goal on 56 minutes when Darrell Edgar-Phillips picked his spot from distance to reduce the deficit. One more chance would fall to the visitors when Tyrese Okello latched onto a clearance by the keeper on 71 minutes, but Giacomo Magrini in the Uxbridge goal was equal to it. Neither team would create too many more chances, and the game petered out to the inevitable conclusion.
Uxbridge are next in action on Saturday when they visit Met Police FC – trying to put an end to an eleven-month winless run on the road.
