Reds and Magpies Share the Spoils in Honeycroft Stalemate

Uxbridge and Wimborne Town played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw in front of a crowd of 429 at Honeycroft on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite dominating the balance of play and creating the lion's share of the chances, The Reds were ultimately forced to settle for a point in a game where the finishing touch just eluded them against a well drilled and solid Wimborne defence. New goalkeeper Sam Morris came in between the sticks on a loan from Watford, and with Sam Deadfield nursing an injury, Liam Prior-Tack came into the starting eleven and
also took the armband.
The hosts started brightly, looking to carry their momentum from their weekend win at Bath, Just three minutes in, Prior-Tack was played through but dragged his crossshot just wide of the target. Five minutes later, George Moore tested Kai Crampton in the Wimborne goal with a snapshot from the edge of the box, but it was saved comfortably down low. Wimborne had a rare moment of early promise in the 10th minute, launching confident appeals for a penalty, but the referee correctly waved them away following a perfectly timed, robust tackle on Lewis Williams by Jack Burchell in the box. Uxbridge quickly resumed control. On 12 minutes, Ollie McCoy did brilliantly to manufacture space on the edge of the area before curling his effort wide. Troy Perez-Duah was the next to threaten, driving in a dangerous low cross on 23 minutes, but Prior-Tack couldn't quite get a clean connection as he arrived into the box.
The visitors occasionally threatened on the counter, and on 24 minutes, a dangerous through ball required Morris to be quick off his line to sweep up and clear the danger. At the other end, McCoy continued to look lively, curling another shot over the bar following a throw-in on the left. However, Uxbridge suffered a blow on the half-hour mark when the dangerous McCoy was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring pull.
The substitution didn't slow the Reds' attacking intent. On 35 minutes, Jake Coomes relentlessly chased down a long clearance; the ricochet fell kindly to the edge of the box where Toby Nnadozie fired just wide under heavy pressure. Coomes was proving to be a real handful with his pace, breaking away again on 40 minutes, though he skewed his shot high and wide.
As the half drew to a close, Uxbridge kept piling on the pressure. A corner was recycled well by Alan Massey, leading to a Burchell header that flew over the crossbar. Coomes then had another effort saved, and Moore saw a 45th-minute snapshot securely held by the keeper, leaving the match goalless at the break.

The second half began much like the first. On 47 minutes, Moore found himself in a good position but failed to make a clean connection, dragging his shot wide. Uxbridge continued to press, and on 55 minutes, Francis Amartey broke through on the left flank, delivering a dangerous low cross that the Wimborne defence did incredibly well to clear just as the red shirts were closing in for the tap-in.
The Magpie's attacking forays were well-contained by a resolute Uxbridge backline, though Morris was called into action on 65 minutes to comfortably hold a speculative shot from distance low down. Heading into the final twenty minutes, The Reds pushed hard for a winner. Amartey was played in wide on the 73rd minute but could only find the side netting while shooting on the run. Five minutes later, Coomes came agonisingly close, fizzing a brilliant curling effort just past the far post.
The pressure was building, but the breakthrough remained elusive with Wimborne's well organised defence giving little change to the Uxbridge front line. Perez-Duah worked hard to carve out an opening on 87 minutes but ultimately fired his shot over the bar. Deep into stoppage time, Moore forced one final save with a snapshot that the keeper held well. There was just enough time for Amartey to get one last low cross into the danger area, but Prior-Tack was unable to connect, and the referee's whistle confirmed a share of the points.
The result means Uxbridge took four points from the two matches over the Bank Holiday weekend - which is a fine achievement and still sit in 1st place in the league as we now look forward to entertaining Haywards Heath in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round next Saturday.
