Back at the end of November, Uxbridge and Weymouth played out a dour 0-0 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium in Dorset, in a match that will not long be remembered. In contrast this match at Honeycroft saw Uxbridge record their biggest win of the season, and give themselves some breathing space between them and the teams below them in the league.
Following the heavy defeat at Farnham the week before, Danny Edwards made some changes with Cole Brown returning at right back - complete with protective mask following his nose injury recently at Basingstoke. New loan signing from Portsmouth Ciaran Martin came in at left back and there was a welcome return at the back for Jordan Stepney. Jeremiah Okine Peters also came into the starting line up, alongside Jo Lawal -making a welcome return from injury, with Harry Rush dropping to the bench.
The match started evenly with Goerge Moore floating a cross just past the far post on 4 minutes, and Weymouth responding with a good break on 10 minutes, but Martin did superbly to get across to block the visitors shot. The Reds then took the lead on 17 minutes with a well worked move, as Lawal did superbly to create space on the right and deliver a cross to Liam Prior-Tack, who held off his marker before squaring for Okine-Peters to tap home from close range. Weymouth almost responded immediately, but Toby Nnadozie threw himself into a superb full-stretch block to deny a goalbound free-kick. Uxbridge’s lead was doubled in the 28th minute when a fine high ball pinpoint ball over the top from Lawal dissected the Weymouth defence and found Moore, who lashed an emphatic finish past the keeper to make it 2-0. The home side the pushed for further goals with Prior-Tack firing just wide on the half hour, and then ten mites later Okine_peters did well to get in on the left flank, but his low ciss was deflected wide by a combination of defender and Wonnacott to keep the score to two at the break.
HT 2-0
Weymouth emerged for the second half with renewed intent. After a goal-line scramble where CJ Fearn and keeper Marco Underwood combined to block a breakaway effort, the visitors pulled a goal back on 61 minutes with a sharp turn and strike from the edge of the box from Captain Tom Bearwish, beat Underwood at full stretch to nestle in the far corner of the Uxbridge net. The comeback was short-lived, however, as barely 3 minutes later Uxbridge restored their two-goal advantage. Prior-Tack was hauled down as he played in Okine-Peters; who was about to pull the trigger, the referee blew for a foul, not playing the advantage to the frustration of the home crowd and management team—but the reprieve for Weymouth was short lived as up stepped George Moore, curling the resulting free-kick low into the bottom corner for 3-1. As the game entered the final ten minutes, Uxbridge turned a solid win into a rout. In the 81st minute, Wonnacott flapped at a Ciaran Martin corner, allowing substitute Bill Montague to bundle the ball over the line for 4-1. Just two minutes later, Montague was wrestled to the ground in the area by Matt Neale. George Moore stepped up to the spot, coolly sending the keeper the wrong way to secure his hat-trick, a just reward for some heavy treatment he had been on the receiving end of for most of the afternoon. Underwood produced one final low save in the 88th minute to ensure the scoreline remained emphatic, capping off a brilliant afternoon for the Reds.
