Match Report: Reds Downed in Devon
Plymouth Parkway 3-1 Uxbridge | Pitching In Southern League Premier South
Tuesday 3 November 2026 | Attendance: 450
Few midweek treks test the resolve of players and travelling supporters quite like a Tuesday night journey down to Devon. A round trip of over 400 miles to Plymouth Parkway’s Bolitho Park is challenging under any circumstances. For Uxbridge, that long trek ultimately proved unforgiving, as a spirited second-half comeback effort succumbed to a late third goal deep in stoppage time. There was though a welcome return to the starting eleven for Olly McCoy, with George Moore currently still unavailable.
The opening quarter-hour saw both teams easing into proceedings cautiously. The first 15 minutes were largely comfortable and cagey for both sides, with neither goalkeeper—Aaron Dearing for Parkway or Sam Morris for Uxbridge—tested as the midfields battled for early dominance on a decidedly chilly evening.
However, the game burst into life in the 14th minute with the night’s opening dangerous attack. Plymouth Parkway worked space down the flank and Will Sulliavn delivered a quality cross into the penalty area, where Andrew Neal rose well to glance a sharp header past Morris to give the hosts a 1–0 lead. Uxbridge looked to respond immediately. Four minutes later, Francis Amartey sparked the Reds into life with a brilliant, energetic run down the left wing. Cutting inside, his dangerous cross was met by Dearing in the Parkway goal, who managed to hold on at the second attempt under pressure.
Uxbridge continued to look for openings. In the 25th minute, McCoy stepped up to take a central free-kick, striking a clean effort that pinged just past Dearing's upright. Yet Parkway’s clinical nature showed again in the 28th minute. The hosts capitalised on space on the edge of the Uxbridge final third, where central defender Ed Palmer collected the ball and unleashed a powerful strike from 30 yards out that left Morris no chance and nestled into the back of the net to double the home side’s advantage at 2–0.
The Reds pushed back in an attempt to narrow the gap before the interval. In the 36th minute, Toby Nnadozie showed great strength to knock down a high ball into the path of McCoy, whose driven volley pinged just wide of the far post. Just four minutes before half-time, Uxbridge faced chaos in their own box as a ball swept in looked destined to cross the line, only for a superb goal-line clearance by Alan Massey to deny Parkway before Ciaran Martin scrambled the rebound clear to keep Uxbridge in the game heading into the break.
HT 0-2
Refreshed from the half-time break, Uxbridge emerged for the second period with renewed intent. In the 52nd minute, McCoy unleashed a curling effort from the edge of the area that beat Dearing outright, only to take an agonizing deflection off a defender and loop over the crossbar for a corner.
Seven minutes later, Ciaran Martin made a surging run down the left side and smartly pulled the ball back to Trevan Robinson. The striker turned his defender neatly and let fly, forcing Dearing into a brilliant tip-over save. Robinson was involved again in the 64th minute, breaking into space on the edge of the box, but his low, accurate drive was once again parried away by the Parkway stopper.
Manager Danny Edwards turned to his bench to inject fresh energy, bringing on Owen James for McCoy in the 60th minute and later introducing Eddie Allsopp, Calum Duffy, Gabe George, and Liam Prior-Tack. For all the effort expended on the long road trip, the travelling Red Army supporters behind the goal finally had something to celebrate in the 84th minute. A well-delivered corner into the Parkway area was knocked back out to the edge of the box, where substitute Owen James caught the ball perfectly, sending a sweet strike through a crowd of bodies and into the net to make it 2–1, and the comeback was on.
With time ticking away and momentum fully on their side, Uxbridge threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser. But the home side, who had made plenty of changes themselves with their big FA Cup on Monday looking large - largely kept the Reds at arms length. In the 90th minute, with a corner awarded in stoppage time, goalkeeper Sam Morris pushed all the way up into the Plymouth Parkway penalty area to add extra aerial presence. However, Plymouth managed to clear the delivery into open space, initiating a rapid counter-attack. Spotting Morris stranded far off his line, substitute Hayden Turner took aim from 60 yards out, lifting a clever lob straight over the retreating defense and into the empty net in the 92nd minute to seal a 3–1 victory for the hosts.
It was a cruel end to a tireless second-half effort from the Reds, who were left to contemplate what might have been on the long trip home.
