Match Report: Double Delight in Hampshire Sends Reds Top
Basingstoke Town 0–2 Uxbridge | Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South
| Tuesday October 27 2026
You have to go back to May 1997 for the last time Uxbridge returned from Basingstoke with three points. In fact, that 2–0 win was at the Camrose ground, one of the classic old non-league grounds—now sadly left in a state of abandonment. The Winklebury Football Complex hadn’t been so kind, with no wins from the Reds' three visits so far, including last season's frustrating draw when only a very late goal denied Uxbridge all three points back in January. Following the FA Trophy win at Egham on Saturday, there was no return to the starting lineup for George Moore, who is still nursing an injury. However, Sam Morris, Jack Burchell, Toby Nnadozie, and Sam Deadfield all came back into the eleven.
The match started with the visitors having plenty of the ball as they dictated the opening exchanges, and the Reds couldn't have asked for a better start, opening the scoring after just twelve minutes through a fine individual effort. A ball worked brilliantly down the left wing found Francis Amartey, who showed superb footwork to cut inside his marker and curl a precise, bending strike past Simon Grant in the Basingstoke goal. Barely two minutes later, before Basingstoke had even had time to compose themselves, Uxbridge doubled their advantage. A lofted pass over the top unleashed Trevan Robinson, who broke clear of the high defensive line. Although Grant parried his initial attempt, the rebound fell right back into the path of Robinson, who made no mistake by spinning and smashing his second effort high into the top corner.
Uxbridge remained firmly on the front foot and nearly killed the match off as a contest before twenty minutes were even on the clock. Amartey broke into the box again and fired a powerful effort into the side netting, briefly tricking a few travelling fans behind the opposite goal into thinking it had snuck in for a third. Basingstoke started to find their footing after that initial storm, carving out their first real chance in the twentieth minute with a quick breakaway down the left channel, forcing Sam Morris into a smart save with his legs from Joe O’Loughlin to keep the lead at two.
Despite the home side pressing to get back into the game, Uxbridge looked lethal every time they went forward on the counter. Robinson came agonisingly close to securing his brace when his clever lob over the advancing keeper was hooked off the line by a recovering defender in the nick of time. As the half drew to a close, both sides traded opportunities in an open, end-to-end contest. Joe Lawal dragged a shot wide following a clever corner routine, while Morris was called into action at the other end to hold a dangerous snapshot from Amir Hadi. Basingstoke then squandered a great opening when an attacker cut inside and curled high over the bar, before Toby Nnadozie tested Grant with a stinging 20-yard drive right on the stroke of half-time.
HT 2-0
The second period began in much the same fashion, with Uxbridge continuing to create the clearer openings and manage the overall tempo of the game. Early in the half, Lawal set up Troy Perez-Duah on the edge of the box, but he couldn't quite keep his shot on target as it flew over the bar. Shortly after, Jack Burchell intercepted cleanly in midfield to send Amartey through, though his initial shot was parried and a follow-up effort was blocked by a sea of defensive shirts.
Basingstoke threw more numbers forward as the minutes ticked away, desperately seeking a way back into the match and evoking memories of last season's late siege. However, the Uxbridge defence held firm and refused to buckle under the rising pressure, with Alan Massey and Burchell providing a commanding presence at the back and giving Basingstoke very little to work with. Going forward, Uxbridge again posed constant questions of the Basingstoke defence as Amartey set up Robinson once more in the 68th minute, only for his effort to be saved after he cut inside.
Basingstoke's best chance to set up a tense finish came in the 76th minute when ex-Red Jerimiah Okine-Peters struck a clean, powerful volley from a deep cross, but Morris produced an outstanding save to maintain the clean sheet. Olly McCoy then pinged a late effort over the bar for the visitors, and Uxbridge safely navigated the closing minutes—leaving no room for any last-minute heartbreak this year.
As the final whistle blew, Uxbridge not only secured an impressive away performance and maximum points, but also went to the top of the league after Poole’s draw. The match was built on another solid defensive performance—their third clean sheet in a row—while remaining a constant threat at the other end of the pitch, giving the Reds plenty of confidence as they approach some pivotal matches in the coming weeks.
