Poole Town 1-1 Uxbridge | Pitching In Southern League Premier South

Saturday 7 November 2026 | Attendance: 1006

Following a long trip to Plymouth on Tuesday, a visit to second-place Poole Town four days later was probably not the first choice for Uxbridge. However, they put in a fine performance and ultimately will feel slightly disappointed not to have come away with all three points. With a nod to the threat the home side posed, manager Danny Edwards tweaked the formation, packing the midfield. This saw Owen James get a first start in an Uxbridge shirt, with Francis Amartey dropping to the bench where he was joined by the returning George Moore.

Uxbridge set an encouraging, high-tempo tone right away, eager to state their intentions. In the 7th minute, following a sharp spell of controlled possession and deliberate build-up play, Ciaran Martin swung a targeted cross into the box that Trevan Robinson did well to make space to meet. He rose highest, but his header glanced just wide of the far post. Robinson was right back in the thick of the action just two minutes later, outmuscling a pair of Poole defenders on what initially looked like a lost cause near the goal line. His clever pull-back completely outmaneuvered the outrushing Adam Parkes in the Poole goal, but the pass unfortunately found empty space instead of an incoming blue shirt. The visitors kept pressing while the momentum was with them, and in the 10th minute, Troy Perez-Duah unleashed a venomous long-range strike that forced the Poole custodian into a smartly diving parry to keep the scoreline level.

However, it was the host Dolphins who landed the afternoon's first punch in the 25th minute. Against the run of play, Uxbridge failed to cleanly clear a low ball into the penalty box. A frantic and chaotic scramble ensued right on the edge of the six-yard box, and Ryan Campbell was eventually able to stab the ball into the corner of the net to give the home side the advantage.

Uxbridge, entirely undeterred by the setback, continued to stick to their game plan and pressed hard for a quick response before the interval. In the 34th minute, a delightful, lofted ball over the top of the Poole defense sent Robinson racing clear on goal, though he dragged his effort narrowly wide of the far post. Perez-Duah stung the keeper's hands once again from the edge of the box in the 41st minute with a blistering drive, and Owen James whipped in a dangerous, curling cross from the left flank in the 43rd minute that agonizingly evaded every blue shirt arriving in the box. Right on the stroke of half-time, a rare turnover in midfield allowed Poole to break rapidly on the counter, but the final shot flew straight into the arms of Sam Morris, keeping the deficit to just one at the break.

HT: 0–1

Poole came out firing after the restart, determined to tighten their grip on the match. They almost doubled their lead in the 48th minute when a sliding, threaded pass found Ben Seymour through on goal. Morris, though, reacted instantly in the Uxbridge goal, rushing off his line with fine anticipation to smother the effort at the striker's feet before any further damage could be done.

That decisive save sparked Uxbridge back into life. In the 54th minute, a cross floated deep into the area was cleverly nodded back across the face of goal to Jack Burchell at the back post, whose low effort was somehow parried away by Parkes. The deserved equalizer finally arrived in the 57th minute. A corner delivery was recycled out to Perez-Duah, who looked up and lofted a deep, measured cross back into the box. The ball was only half cleared to Alan Massey, who looped a fine header over the back-pedaling Poole goalkeeper and into the net, bringing the traveling supporters to their feet and leveling the scores at 1–1.

With the wind firmly in their sails, Uxbridge pushed aggressively to complete the turnaround. Sam Deadfield dragged a rasping strike just wide from the edge of the box in the 61st minute, and Olly McCoy forced a fine save from the host keeper when well-placed inside the area in the 66th minute. George Moore made an appearance off the bench and was into the action straight away, working space cleverly outside the 18-yard box in the 70th minute, only to see his shot fly straight into the keeper's grateful arms.

The drama heightened significantly in the 75th minute when the referee had a major say in proceedings. Harry Thomas was shown a second yellow card for the hosts following an altercation with McCoy on the touchline, leaving Poole to navigate the final 15 minutes with 10 men.

Uxbridge immediately looked to capitalise on the numerical advantage and snatch all three points on the road. Almost immediately from the restart, Cole Brown pinged a brilliant, curling cross across the face of goal that missed the far post by inches. As the clock ticked down into the closing stages, Uxbridge continued to bombard the Poole box. Deadfield saw a powerful 83rd-minute strike deflected just wide of the post for a corner, and substitute Francis Amartey tested the keeper with a sharp snapshot in the 84th minute that again required a strong pair of hands to turn behind.

Poole mounted one final defensive break on the counter in stoppage time, but a dangerous late cross and wild follow-up shot both flashed wide of the visitors' goal, ensuring Danny Edwards' men returned home from Dorset with a crucial, fully deserved point. They will now go into Tuesday’s home match against Hanwell Town full of confidence.

FT 1-1

Uxbridge: Morris, Brown, Martin, Burchell, Massey, Nnadozie (Prior-Tack), Perez-Duah, Deadfield, Robinson (Amartey), James (Moore), McCoy.
