Match Report: A Harrow-ing Night as Reds Suffer a Spot of Bother
Harrow Borough 3 - 3 Uxbridge (Harrow win 5-4 on penalties) |
Middlesex Senior Cup 2nd Round | Tuesday 13 October 2026 | Attendance: 169
Tuesday nights under the floodlights always carry a unique kind of tension in cup football, but for Uxbridge, this trip to Earlsmead arrived enveloped in a broader context. With Saturday’s huge FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round clash against Hornchurch looming large on the horizon at Honeycroft, the priority was clear. Uxbridge opted to protect key legs, deploying a heavily rotated, unfamiliar starting eleven against a very capable Harrow Borough side. If anyone in the ground expected this makeshift Uxbridge lineup to quietly surrender the tie to focus on the weekend, they were mistaken as It was a chaotic, entertaining cup tie that ebbed and flowed, and ultimately went all the way to a penalty shoot out.
The match exploded into life with a breathless opening ten minutes that set the tone for the entire evening. The Uxbridge defensive unit initially struggled to find their rhythm, and Harrow capitalised almost immediately. In just the sixth minute, a dangerous, whipping delivery was sent into the Uxbridge penalty area. In a desperate attempt to clear the lines, defender Gabe George made the intervention, only to agonisingly head the ball past
Patkevych in the Uxbridge goal and into the back of the net.
Barely sixty seconds after the restart, the Red Army hit straight back. Sweeping forward, Uxbridge sliced through the Harrow midfield. The ball found its way to Jake Coomes at the far post, who required no second invitation to slot home the ball to instantly level the tie at 1-1. Having restored parity so swiftly, the makeshift Uxbridge eleven began to visibly settle. The midfield started to dictate the tempo, stringing together prolonged spells of possession and playing with the trademark confidence that has been a hallmark of the club's recent league form.
Just past the half-hour mark, that growing dominance was rewarded. A beautifully constructed attacking move pinned Harrow back inside their own defensive third. Eddie Allsopp, finding a crucial pocket of space on the edge of the area in the 31st minute, collected the ball, broke into the box, and coolly beat the defender and keeper to give the Reds a 2-1 advantage.
However, Harrow Borough keen to not make this match the last ever cup match at Earlsmead ratcheted up the pressure as halftime approached. Four minutes before the break, a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Harrow's Adam Kolli to ghost away from his marker and draw the hosts level at 2-2, ensuring the sides went into the dressing rooms deadlocked after an entertaining 45 minutes.
HT 2-2
The momentum swing just before halftime carried over into the second period. Harrow emerged from the tunnel with renewed vigor, and within two minutes of the restart, they regained the advantage. It was Kolli again, proving to be a constant thorn in the side of the Uxbridge defence, latching onto a precise through ball in the 47th minute and finishing superbly with an excellent curling finish into the far corner to put the hosts ahead.
For much of the second half, the game descended into a grueling, physical battle in the middle of the park. Harrow attempted to manage the clock and kill the game's early frantic pace, while Uxbridge committed bodies forward in search of a second equaliser. Their cause was helped by a Red Card for Harrow’s Oluseye Okunlola in the 81st minute
As the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark, it seemed Harrow had done enough to weather the storm. But deep into stoppage time, with the referee checking his watch in the 96th minute, one final, desperate ball was launched into the Harrow penalty area.
The ball was headed down to Liam Prior-Tack who had found space in the box, he calmly slotted the ball under Everett for a dramatic, last-gasp equaliser. The referee blew his whistle seconds later, sending the tie straight to the lottery of a penalty shootout.
Both sides converted their first four penalties, and when Harrow converted their 5th it fell to Trevan Robinson to try to take it to sudden death. However it wasn't to be and Lewis Everett pulled off a smart stop to seal a 5-4 shootout victory for the hosts.
All eyes, and all energy, now turn to Honeycroft this Saturday where Hornchurch await.
