Uxbridge made it six unbeaten in all competitions with a workmanlike 2-1 win over a dogged Ashford Town (Middx) side on Saturday.
The Red’s made a fast start with a goal in the 5th minute, when Josh Addae’s long throw was knocked down in the box for D’Andre Brown to lash home the ball. George Legg was soon called into action though with a full length save on 10 minutes to preserve the lead. With Uxbridge making most of the running, they were helped on 24 minutes when Ashford’s No9 Aaron McLeish saw red for a late tackle – which most observers felt was a bit harsh. With an extra man Uxbridge did their best to make it count – firstly a goalmouth scramble when Massimo Giamattei hit the bar, and Ada Okorogheye then hit the post from the rebound at full stretch. The always industrious Josh Addae then ran almost the entire length of the field, but his shot was well saved by visiting keeper Marcin Brzozowski. With more chances for both Toby Nnadozie & George Moore, it looked comfortable as we headed into stoppage time, however Ashford earned a penalty for shirt pulling in the box, but Basim Martehmasebi smashed the ball against the bar, and it was cleared to maintain Uxbridge’s half time lead.
HT 1-0
The second half started with another shot hitting the woodwork, again by Okorogheye – the third time Uxbridge had done so in the match, the number of times only being beaten by the number of cards that referee Jake Hillier had started to dish out - there would go on to be twelve in total – only slightly less than you would see at an average Pokémon convention! This included a 2nd Yellow for Prince Kandolo on 59 minutes – leaving Ashford down to nine men. With a 2-man advantage Uxbridge then really asserted themselves as the half wore on – with only the very impressive Brzozowski keeping the score down as he made a number of fantastic saves notably to deny both George Moore - twice - and Giamattei. Uxbridge did double their lead with seven minutes remaining when Leo Decabo’s low shot went in via the post and the unfortunate keeper. This proved timely when Ashford went straight up the other end and got a second penalty - this time with Brad Sweeney sending Legg the wrong way to half the deficit. There was time late on for Brzozowski to make another good save – this time from Decabo – but ultimately it was Uxbridge who took all three points to move up to 12th place in the league.
