It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, and I'm feeling good—so sang Nina Simone in her 1965 hit—and Uxbridge channelled the exact mood of the song yesterday afternoon with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chippenham Town at Honeycroft. Second-half goals from George Moore and Toby Nnadozie capped a highly professional performance after the visitors were reduced to ten men before the break.
With six new starters in the opening lineup—and a further three new faces on the bench—you wondered how long it would take for this revamped Uxbridge side to gel. However, with an unbeaten pre-season schedule behind them, there was plenty of optimism around Honeycroft that it wouldn’t take long.
Right from the first whistle, Uxbridge looked keen to assert their authority. Yet it was Chippenham — relegated from the National League South last season—who initially looked the more composed, creating the afternoon's first real opening. Jac Poffley found space to cross for Felix Miles, who just couldn't reach the ball on the stretch to trouble Dino Kaiser. It was a big moment for Kaiser, making his first appearance of any sort for The Reds after signing just this week. Just three minutes later, George Moore served notice of his intentions. The talismanic forward stung the hands of Chippenham keeper Harvey Rees with a fizzing drive that he struggled to hold, signaling a lively afternoon ahead. The pressure continued to mount. On 13 minutes, Moore turned provider, threading a clever ball into the box for Francis Amartey. The forward did brilliantly to spin his defender and looked poised to strike, only to be stopped in his tracks. Despite vocal appeals for a penalty from the Uxbridge faithful, the referee waved play on.
Uxbridge grew increasingly dominant as the half progressed. A long ball over the top on 18 minutes completely evaded the Chippenham backline. Moore, reacting quickest, raced onto the loose ball and took his shot early, but agonisingly watched his effort drift just past the post. The defining moment of the match arrived exactly on the half-hour mark. In the aftermath of a clash on the edge of the box, Chippenham's Will King was shown a straight red card for retaliation against Moore. The sending-off completely shifted the complexion of the game, handing Uxbridge a numerical advantage that they immediately sought to exploit.
The hosts turned the screw within two minutes. The impressive Ciaran Martin fed Moore from out wide, but his powerful strike fizzed wide of the target. Martin was in the thick of the action again on 42 minutes, doing superbly to reach the byline before cutting the ball back perfectly into the path of Moore. The snapshot looked destined for the back of the net, but Rees produced an outstanding full-stretch save to keep the visitors level. Just before the break, a pin-point corner from captain Sam Deadfield found Ollie McCoy completely unmarked in the box, but he couldn't direct his header on target. Despite their absolute dominance, Uxbridge went into the interval frustrated to be level.

The second half began in much the same vein. The ball dropped kindly for Toby Nnadozie on the edge of the box in the 48th minute, though his resulting shot was fired straight into the grateful arms of Rees. Chippenham offered a fleeting reminder of their threat four minutes later, firing a free-kick safely over the crossbar, but it was to be a rare foray forward for the ten-man visitors. Uxbridge continued to probe. A 56th-minute Deadfield corner found Josh Boorn at the near post, his header rising just over the bar. However, the sustained pressure finally yielded its reward in the 61st minute. A corner from substitute Troy Perez-Duah caused absolute havoc in the Chippenham penalty area. The ball dropped loose and eventually fell to Moore, who made no mistake, ruthlessly lashing it into the roof of the net to give Uxbridge a fully deserved 1-0 lead.
With their tails up, Uxbridge pushed for the killer blow. Martin saw a dangerous low cross desperately touched away as the red shirts closed in, and a subsequent corner was palmed out to Moore, who sent a rising effort just over the bar. The vital cushion arrived in the 69th minute. Moore, heavily involved in everything positive for Uxbridge, picked up the ball out wide and delivered a delicious, curling cross into the penalty area. Nnadozie timed his run to perfection, meeting the ball emphatically with his head to double the advantage and send the majority of the 426-strong Honeycroft crowd into raptures.
Chippenham tried to muster a desperate response, pumping a dangerous free-kick into the box on 81 minutes, but Kaiser was alert to the danger, storming off his line to make a brave block just as Felix Miles looked poised to strike. Late in the day, there was still time for the referee, Mr. Finch-Critchley, to illustrate a "new FIFA directive." McCoy broke beautifully into the box and was unceremoniously dragged to the floor by a defender—an action that is apparently now not deemed a penalty. We look forward to that particular rule being applied with consistency this season. In stoppage time, substitute Liam Prior-Tack nearly added a third, breaking away on a swift counter-attack before being crowded out by the retreating defence, settling for a corner.
The final whistle confirmed a comprehensive 2-0 victory. A clean sheet, three points, and a dominant display marks the perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign—Feeling Good indeed.
